Concrete Strength Information

Different strengths of concrete are required for different applications.
Concrete strength is denominated in megapascals (MPa)
Aggregate size is denominated in mm (20mm / 10mm)

General Purpose Concrete

Concrete Strength

General purpose projects such as a driveway, paths and patios a Grade 20 (20 MPa) concrete is usually used.
For projects subject to wear and load such as a truck driveway or a water tank slab a Grade 25 (25 MPa) concrete should be used.

If soil conditions are known to be poor, eg expansive clay soils, consult a structural engineer.

Aggregate size

20mm aggregate size is usually used for all general purpose projects.
10mm aggregate size is benificial for workability and ensures an even fill for projects with small gaps in the reinforcing steel.

If you are unsure on what concrete mix to use we recommend you consult a professional concretor or structural engineer.
